MN ABC Announces Safety Services - "Making Safety Work for You!"
Safety is a critical issue to both the construction worker and the employer, and MN ABC provides many services to help meet contractors' safety needs.
MN ABC is committed to keeping its members on the cutting edge of safety compliance by providing them with the most current information available. Even before new regulations are enacted, MN ABC stands ready to advise members on how to implement those changes.
We offer the services of a Safety Specialist, Donny Hines, in two different options.
The first option is to hire Donny on a "Contractual Basis." Signing a contract would allow your company to get big discounts on valuable safety services. You can click here to learn more about that.
The second option is to hire Donny on an "On-Demand" basis. If you only need help once or twice a year, this is the option for you. You can learn more about that by clicking here.
Additionally, MN ABC has fostered a Partnership with MN OSHA, and has one of the most active STEP chapters in the nation.
Safety starts with front-line employees, and MN ABC addresses this issue by offering a multitude of on-demand training. Our Safety Resource Network is also a useful tool for any safety director that needs to bounce ideas of others.
MN ABC also provides education programs such as seminars, conferences, handbooks, toolbox talks, and OSHA required training.
We are proud to help our contractors become safe employers, and our craft professionals become safe employees. For more information, please e-mail Jim Kuhn, Safety Director.
MN ABC/MN OSHAPartnership Adds New Incentive
February 1, 2011
With 18 current ABC memberpartners participating in the program, MN OSHA was looking to increase theincentives to reach more employers. Tyrone Taylor of MN OSHA approached the Safety Committee in December witha new proposal for Gold Level Partners:
Changesfor Gold level Partners are:
Ifthe a Gold Level Partner employer agrees to a non-serious citation, theiroptions are:
1. The employer may accept the citation and pay the penalty, thecitation will stay on their record.
2. The employer may acceptthe non-serious rating and use the penalty dollars towardsre-training of it’s hourly
employees on the specific issues regarding thecitation. The citation will stay on their record.
3. The employer maychoose to train all of its supervisory level employees on the specific issuesregarding the citation, within an agreed upon time period. The employerwould provide documentation of training (topic, roster, date etc.) to MNOSHA. Thenthe employer must provide documentation of how the company follows theprocedures outlined in the company’s AWAIR program, including i.d. of goals andobjectives, company roles and responsibilities, how accidents will beinvestigated, how the safety and health programs will be enforced, disciplinaryactions, and how the program will be reviewed and how safety committees areoperating within the company. Once the employer has providedMNOSHA with this information, the non-serious citation and penalty will berescinded from the company’s record.
The ABC Safety Committee thought the proposal was great forGold members of the Partnership, and accepted the change unanimously. The committee is hopeful that thechange will increases membership. “We really think getting a non-serious citation rescinded from yourrecord is very valuable thing. Itreally shows that MN OSHA is willing to work with us, and not against us asmerit shop contractors trying to do our work as safely as possible,” Says RayAustin, chair of the ABC Safety Committee.
In order to qualify for the Partnership, and ABC member musthave completed a STEP application the year prior, and agree to a visit by anABC Safety Committee member to look over the company’s AWAIR program.
Please contact ABC for details in joining the Partnership.
