2015 Chapter Award Winners

The MN/ND ABC’s awards program was created to recognize members who are dedicated to improving their business, customer service and community through determination and hard work.  Members have been nominated by their peers and winners were selected by the Business Development Committee using specific criteria for the following categories:

ABC Associate of the Year - Aerotek

Mike Griesgraber, Joe Ley and the rest of the team at Aerotek Construction Services have received the 2015 Associate Supplier of the Year award because of their participation, dedication and commitment to help all ABC members in a variety of different ways. From the sponsorship of networking events such as the Brewery Tours, the shared industry knowledge from round table discussions and also providing qualified candidates for all levels of construction, Aerotek has been a valued partner to ABC and its members.  Mike Griesgraber serves as the chair for the BD committee, Joe Ley sits on the membership committee and both, along with Melissa Penner and Nate Lamusga who are partners with Mike and Joe, have a number of clients who are ABC members that they provide work force solutions for.  Aerotek values their partnership with ABC and looks forward to many more years together as we all fight the good fight for merit shops alike.  Congratulations to recipient of the 2015 Associate Supplier of the year award, Mike, Joe, Melissa, Nate and the rest of the team from Aerotek.

2015 Construction Woman of the Year - Susan Bowman, Comstock Construction

Susan has been a key part of Comstock Constructions’ team for the past 18 years as their Vice President of Finance and Administration. Susan has served on the ABC MN/ND Chapter’s North Dakota Advisory Council since 2010 and has increased her ABC involvement to include testifying on our prevailing wage bill to reform the law. Susan’s expertise, particularly regarding the prevailing wage issue, has been an incredible resource for fellow ABC members, with whom she willingly
shares.  Susan has also been a key factor in developing a partnership with the Construction Financial Management Association (CFMA) and has been one of the primary architects of the annual regional construction management conference in Fargo-Moorhead, providing unparalled education and business development opportunities for ABC and CFMA members. There are few in our industry as committed as Susan bowman, and therefore her outstanding service warrants her nomination to become Woman
Contractor of the Year for 2015.

2015 Construction Company of the Year - The Joseph Company

Joseph Founder, Joseph Wagner, joined ABC in 1984 when the company had little financial resources to afford membership. However, Mr. Wagner embraced the ideals of ABC and began a long history of supporting the merit shop philosophy. Joseph Company has actively recruited new members in its primary trade area of southeastern Minnesota and has prioritized engagement with ABC member subcontractors and suppliers.

Joseph has been awarded the Awards of Excellence 12 times over the past several years on a variety of projects, most recently the Eagle Award for the $30 million addition and remodel of the Fairmont Power Plant. Joseph’s business and continuity and dedication to the construction industry has allowed them to prosper and grow over their 50-year history.  Joseph takes great pride in having the highest safety standards and the internal capacity to not only lead and manage the work, but also self-perform many trades.

Joseph’s respect for ethical standards in our industry has always prevailed in the competitive bid process as well as the construction administration phase. They strive to treat their suppliers and subcontractors fairly and with the utmost respect.

Joseph and their employees are also active in the Austin community and support the United Way from contributions from employees at their annual Christmas party as well as holding board positions on the Rotary Club, Catholic School Board and Foundation and mentoring programs with local schools. They are also working on funding a scholarship program for the Carpentry Program at Riverland Community College.  For all of these reasons and more, the Business Development Committee has awarded The Joseph Company as our 2015 Construction Company of the year.

2015 ABC Hall of Fame - Cliff Moen, Bergstrom Electric, Inc.

Cliff Moen of Bergstrom Electric has been chosen for the ABC Hall of Fame for his 40 years in the construction industry and 28 years as an involved ABC member. Having been involved in the management at Bergstrom Electric over the past 20 years, he has been actively involved in carrying out the merit shop philosophy by being involved in ABC and other merit shop organizations. His company has provided apprenticeship training to their employees since the beginning of his involvement in management. He also carries that involvement down through the management team in his company.

In 2008, he was asked to serve on the ND Advisory Council to help the ABC star the North Dakota office in which he served until 2013. He has since assigned another one of Bergstrom’s key personnel to assume the position, which he still fills today.

The merit shop philosophy is truly ingrained in their organization, and will continue to be for years to come thanks to Cliff advocating merit shop in their day-to-day business and proudly conveying that to other contractors and customers.
