About ABC of Minnesota

Mission Statement

To forge a partnership among Owners, Contractors, Employees and others to protect and promote free enterprise through Merit Shop philosophy and to provide the means to assure high quality constructed projects, safely built, on time and within budget.


Our Objective

The ABC of Minnesota exists for the purpose of promoting the "free enterprise system", to ensure continuing business development for members with the "merit shop philosophy" in the construction industry.

The ABC of Minnesota has a duty of providing its members and their employees quality educational and legislative support unequaled in their field. With the strength we obtain through the synergy of our membership, ABC of Minnesota shall actively promote open bidding on all construction projects.


Our Vision

ABC of Minnesota will promote the "Merit Shop" philosophy by educating and training the workforce and by being pro-active on legislative and community issues consistent with our ideals. We will work to remove barriers to free competition and create networking and business opportunities.


The Merit Shop Philosophy
  • The freedom of one firm to work alongside any other firm, whether union or non-union.
  • The free enterprise system in action, promoting free and open competition and the belief that contracts should be awarded to the lowest, qualified bidder.
  • The freedom of choice, protecting managements right to manage their company as it sees fit, and the employee's right to decide whether to be in a union or union-free work environment.



Code Of Ethics

  • To maintain a standard of performance consistent with the owner's best interest and my obligations.
  • To quote only realistic prices and completion dates and perform accordingly.
  • To guarantee cooperation to the fullest extent with the Architect and other agents of the owner toward fulfillment of the contract undertaken.
  • To solicit and accept bids and/or quotation only from firms who subscribe to the principles of this code of ethics.
  • To make all payments within the terms of the contract.
  • To observe and foster the highest standards of safety and working conditions for employees.
  • To establish realistic wage schedules for employees commensurate with their ability so that they may enjoy the dignity to which they are entitled.
  • To participate actively in the training of skilled tradesmen for future availability thereof to members of this association.
