"Get Into Politics, or Get Out of Business"
ABC has always made government affairs the core of our mission. No other group represents you as a contractor like ABC. On the state and federal level, our members and staff lobby for a radical notion: fair and free competition in contracting without excessive government mandates or intrusion.
Although it is a simple concept, ABC is constantly beating back attempts to impose discriminatory laws and regulation. We utilize a combination of professional staff, grassroots action, and political endorsements to promote our agenda at the Capitol.
Our top issues are:- Stop unethical kickbacks that distort the bidding process (job targeting).
- Stop government-sanctioned employment discrimination (union-only project labor agreements).
- Reform and limit government-imposed wage scales (prevailing wage).
- Promote healthy development of the construction marketplace, including responsible green building standards.

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Eden Prairie) addresses over 70 ABC members & guests at a recent General Contractor Open House at the home of Shingobee Builders in Loretto, MN.

Minnesota
ABC members recently went to Washington DC to lobby their
representatives and attend the 2010 Legislative Conference. Members
talked with several congressmen, expressing our opposition to card
check and ObamaCare, and pushing for increased access to capital for
construction loans. Members were also fortunate that Rep. Erik Paulsen
arranged for an insider's tour that took them to the top of the U.S.
Capitol dome.
